Say you’re listening to a song you really like and want to hear other tracks that go great with it. The Genius Playlist feature finds the songs in your music library that go great together and makes a Genius Playlist for you. It’s like having your own highly intelligent, personal DJ.
Find Your Music Faster
It’s even easier to find the song you want to hear. Now you can view your album art in Cover Flow. Or just press and hold the Center button to browse by album or artist. When you find the right song, press the Center button to add it to your on-the-go playlist.
Rock and Roll Over
Tilt or turn iPod nano on its side, and you’ll listen, watch, and play in new ways. You can flip through your album art with Cover Flow. Or, vertically speaking, see more albums and artists on the screen at one time.

This is an incredibly small and appealing player. Looks are great. The sound quality is excellent. The screen is bright and clear. The build quality appears to be solid.
However…
The iTunes user interface has to be one of the worst in the industry today, especially one that accompanies a device as successful as the iPod. Any hopes of fine-grained control over the songs you sync to the iPod are dashed, nay, crushed, by the iTunes interface. Note to Apple: please send some of your software usability engineers to Google for a crash course. Probably heresy, but Microsoft also seems to do a better job in this department.
The iPod controls are not very clear on how to turn up or down the volume on the device. Which is surprising, given how the other functions are so obvious and intuitive.
Overlook these two cribs, and this is an excellent device. Well… almost.

I really dislike how Apple iPods seem to be dominating the digital audio player market these days. I have nothing against Apple personally, other than the fact they overprice their items and sell them as status symbols. When you buy an iPod, you are paying for the name and the notoriety that comes with owning an iPod. People would have you believe that the iPod is THE ultimate portable audio player and anything less means you either didn’t want to spend the money on quality, or you can’t afford the best. This whole snobby attitude people adopt about non-iPods is frustrating. They are NOT the best players on the market, no matter how much they advertise on this site or in stores. There are many devices out there that are just as good, if not better, that sell for half the price. Just like Mac computers, Apple jacks up their prices and squeezes their customers’ wallets by selling them average products. I have issues with this. I don’t like seeing inexperienced people taken advantage of and sold something under the assumption they are getting the best out there, when there are many, many other brands that will give them what they’re looking for, and for half the price. It irks me to see someone get suckered like that.
I’ve owned two iPods, both gifts, and neither of them made me consider my older audio players were inferior to it. First of all, you’d be insane to pay anything over $100 for 4GB of storage. That’s highway robbery. You can buy a 4GB player of another brand for less and it will be just as good for your needs. I can’t believe anyone would pay so much money (over $25 per GB).
Secondly, you have to download the iTunes software in order to sync music to the players, and I have issues with this as well. iTunes is a frustrating thing to deal with in order to transfer music to your player. The software is confusing for new users and overall cumbersome and makes syncing music such a hassle. I have had other MP3 devices that sync music without the need to download their special software–they used a drag and drop method which was far more convenient and user friendly than iTunes. iTunes, for me, is a big, big reason why I do not like iPods. I simply hate using software to get my music synced.
And for the price you pay for these things, you’d think they could devise a way to NOT have the shiny surface start chipping and scratching after a few weeks. My green Nano started looking beaten up and the green surface was chipping away to reveal the black underneath, and I didn’t even handle the thing roughly.
You have the ability to view pictures and videos, but on such a small screen, what’s the point anyway? Even the album art that shows when listening to a song is so small you cannot make anything out on it. Might as well not show it at all.
Basically, for what you shell out for an iPod, you can save a huge amount of cash and get something else for half the cost that will suit your needs. And anything you can do to avoid using iTunes is a plus in my book as well.
The iPods would be great little players if Apple stopped ripping people off and charged a reasonable price for these things, but until then I see no sense in purchasing one, other than the fact you want to keep up with the Joneses and look cool. Because that’s really all you’re paying for here…a status symbol.

Saved a few $$ on the 4th Generation iPod because I had no use for some of the new features (like video). For my purpose Gen4 is a better value.

I ordered this item from amazon for my wife’s birthday. I chose regular shipping and i got an email saying that I will receive this by 17th and her birthday was on 19th. I did not receive it until 20th and I called them back. They had no idea why the order was not shipped on time. I could not give her a present as I promised. Do not trust them with shipping on time. It seems you have to order a month in advance to receive it on time.

I have the 4th Generation Ipod Nano in orange. It looks beautiful and it works perfectly. I do wish it would have come with more detailed instructions for setting up as there are alot of options in the menu and the buttons I push that I have no idea what they mean.
I bought a cover for it to protect it while it’s in my purse, but would also recommend some kind of screen cover to cover the glass part from scratches, etc…
