Introducing Kindle™ Three years ago, we set out to design and build an entirely new class of device—a convenient, portable reading device with the ability to wirelessly download books, blogs, magazines, and newspapers. The result is Amazon Kindle. We designed Kindle to provide an exceptional reading experience. Thanks to electronic paper, a revolutionary new display technology, you’ll find reading Kindle’s screen is as sharp and natural as reading ink on paper—and nothing like the strain and glare of a computer screen. Kindle is also easy on the fingertips. It never becomes hot, and is designed for ambidextrous use so both “lefties” and “righties” can read comfortably at any angle for long periods of time. We wanted Kindle to be completely mobile and simple to use for everyone, so we made it wireless. No PC and no syncing needed. Using the same 3G network as advanced cell phones, we deliver your content using our own wireless delivery system, Amazon Whispernet. Unlike WiFi, you’ll never need to locate a hotspot. There are no confusing service plans, yearly contracts, or monthly wireless bills—we take care of the hassles so you can just read. With Whispernet, you can be anywhere, think of a book, and get it in one minute. Similarly, your content automatically comes to you, wherever you are. Newspaper subscriptions are delivered wirelessly each morning. Most magazines arrive before they hit newsstands. Haven’t read the book for tomorrow night’s book club? Get it in a minute. Finished your book in the airport? Download the sequel while you board the plane. Whether you’re in the mood for something serious or hilarious, lighthearted or studious, Kindle delivers your spontaneous reading choices on demand. We’re very proud to introduce Kindle and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. – The Amazon Kindle Team more info

Don’t Gamble with Kindle
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I received my Kindle in May 2008. I travel a lot and love that it fits in my briefcase. Last night I pulled it out of my briefcase only to see that the screen has a section that has become black lines. The text in this section of the screen in unreadable. I contacted Amazon and learned that the device is out of warranty and I have to replace it. They want me to buy another overpriced gadget? They need to wake up, while the reader is handy the goal is to sell books not gadgets. Their idea of good customer service is to quickly tell you NO. For the money I have spent for convenience I could have purchased many more books and in the future I’ll do that from anyone but Amazon.

Night Light?

A great machine but why not backlit to read at night without turning on the bedside light. Maybe Kindle 3.

I put this on my wish list. But my wife is the one to purchase this item. Is is awesome. So now I have added the new Kindle to my wish list and removed the Original Kindle from it.

Looking forward to getting the newest Kindle.

Great Device

Some trouble initially with setting the unit up with whispernet. Amazon tech’s eventually figured out the problem and resolved it (took about 1 hour on the phone). Works flawlessly since then. A built in light would be a great feature for future Kindles.

my first 3book reader
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I am a retired USAF officer and a retired Mental Health Professional. I enjoy reading but library space is getting out of hand. I bought a kindle2 and have enjoyed reading once again. I have had no trouble downloading ebooks on the whisper net even though I live on a timberfarm back in the woods of the Mississippi Hills. Thanks a lot to the makers of kindle2.

Two thumbs way up!

This is a Review that I am more than happy to make. I purchased a (refurbished) Kindle 1 from Amazon AFTER I asked for some feedback from the Customer Communities, btw. First of all, the Customer Communities is a great place to fine out tips on the Kindle, great books to download; etc. etc. At the time of this writing, (10-27-09) have had my Kindle 1 for a month. All I have got to say is, if you take a luxury away from me; please don’t let it be my Kindle! TWO THUMBS WAY UP is an accurate phrase.

From Day 1 the Tutorial that is downloaded on the Kindle makes it simple as Pie to navigate. It is very easy to download books from Kindle and all the “free to download” sites. I am not Computer savvy, but I can do it w/out any Hullabaaloo. I love the feature of making the Font bigger, I don’t even have to wear my glasses if I don’t want to. Another thing I love is the “look up” feature. How many books have you read and you just assume the meaning of a word? It is fun to stop a moment and look the word up on my Kindle and then REALLY know the meaning of the word (Maybe it will make me smarter, ya think? :-) .

To sum it all up……..run don’t walk to buy your Kindle. A Happy Reader in Indiana, Maryruth

I travel extensively and love my Kindle when I’m on the road. Don’t have to pack a stack of books, just my Kindle.

decided on K1 instead of K2
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have considered purchasing the Kindle K2 since it was first introduced, but couldn’t justify the cost. When the price was reduced my interest was renewed. But I was still reluctant. When I saw the refurbished K1 available for $149.00 how could you go wrong. In addition to the price, I was attracted to the ability to replace the battery if needed and the SD memeory card slot, neither feature available on the K2. I also read on the Kindle discussions that the text was darker on the K1 than on the K2.

When I received the Kindle I was surprised that it was packaged like a new product

including cellophane wrapping on the box. It wouldn’t be apparent that this was a refurbished product. When unwrapped it was ready to go. After reading the users guide it is easy to use, even ordering books using whispernet. I orderd my first book within an hour after receiving it and it was delivered to my Kindle within thirty seconds as advertised .

Other ebook readers are becoming available to compete with Kindle and after reading the previews of the new products, I’m happy with my purchase and would choose Kindle over the competition.

I love my Kindle!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I purchased a “refurbished” Kindle from Amazon Warehouse Deals a little over two months ago. I was wary at first since it was refurbished, but when I called, I was told that I would get the same warranty that I would if I bought a new one. That settled it. I was getting a Kindle!

To make a long story short, I LOVE it! It’s so much easier to read in bed than a book. I can lay flat on my back if I want and hold it with one hand and not be uncomfortable. There is no glare from light. It’s just like reading a piece of paper. I love being able to look up words that I don’t know as I’m reading just by clicking a couple of things. The Kindle books are cheaper in most cases than a regular book, not to mention Amazon offers a handful of freebies every month. I’ve read complaints about the cover that comes with the Kindle. I admit that I wasn’t fond of it at first, but now that I’m used to it, I have no complaints. I imagine I could get a better quality one, but this one serves it’s purpose just fine. My one and only complaint is that I can’t connect via Whispernet from my home. I live in a rural area and this is understandable (my cell phone doesn’t always work inside my house either). But, it does connect at my work, so I just take the Kindle to work with me, download what I need on my lunch break, and when I get home, I’m able to read away. I’m still a very happy customer two months later.
