Great Product Bar None – Question about the case (plastic spine)
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve compared the 500 and this one, the 505 side by side. The 500 series looks like something from the 1960’s TV show Star Trek. Yes, this one, the red 505, looks like it came out of an ultra-modern, latest generation CGI big budget film. Elegant, sleek, and stylish. The e-ink screen has got to be seen to be believed. If one did not know better it would appear that there is an actual paper page just beneath the screen.

Here is my slight problem. The beautiful (is it brown burgundy or red) leather case that comes by default with this Red Sony 505 has a plastic strip adhered to the leather spine that serves as a “holder” if you will, for the Sony Reader. Each end of the plastic strip (spine) has a plastic upturned rectangle end with a tiny nub in the center to fit each end of the reader. Pardon my description of this plastic strip. Now, on to my question. My 5 year old dropped the Reader whilst it was in its leather case. One of the ends of the plastic strip broke. Unfortunately, the case no longer works as without both ends with the nub to insert into the Sony reader, the reader just flops around.

I tried crazy glue to no avail. It seems such a waste to toss this nice leather case because of a stupid plastic strip. Anyone know if these strips are sold separately?

I love my Sony PRS-505

I’m 30 and because I have no kids, I spend a lot of money on tech toys. I’m not sure how the Sony Reader stacks up against my other electronics… it isn’t used as often as my iPod and isn’t as cheap as my DivX player… so for its cost, I expect to be able to use it for years to come. Thankfully, with its sturdy aluminum housing and beautifully readable screen (and protected by the BookArmor), this seems very possible.

Although PDFs are possible, I recommend sticking to more vanilla file formats like RTF and LRF. I’ve started with free books from Manybooks and Gutenberg Project… it hasn’t replaced paper in my daily life – yet – but it has already eased my load on a long trip.

Perfect E-Book
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The Sony Reader PRS 505 has everything you want in a reader.

The screen is not too small, the colors are perfect.

You can zoom in and out if the lettering is too small.

And the e-book comes with a beautiful binder that fits perfectly in any bag.

I can recommend this reader to anyone who just wants to read e-books.

If you want to edit texts – keep looking…

Good value for the money
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I wasn’t sure I wanted a book reader. But my sister and boss convinced me to try one. I did a lot of research before settling on the Sony PRS505 and I am extrememly pleased with my choice. My reasons for buying the Sony were the price, the screen resolution, the built-in capacity, ability to add SD cards, and the availablity of books from a wide variety of sites. The Kindle was nice but not worth the extra money for the backlight (I didn’t care about the wireless feature) nor could I add extra memory (although 16 GB is a lot). My critera was good value and features for the price I was willing to pay. The Sony PRS505 fit that bill nicely, plus the red color is a very nice touch. My boss has the Kindle and was very impressed with the feel of the Sony (metal case versus plastic). I am also planning on utilizing the SD card slots to keep collections of books on different cards. I made a great choice!

this item is for someone who doesnt mind downloading book to your pc and transfering to over to your e-book. No newpapers,no magazines. The READER works great, I am hoping for improvement on the E-libary you download to interact with Ebooks. But it is minor, the site is slow and not as well used as amazon. But I would not trade my ereader for a kindle. The kindle is nice, but E-reader is just what I need.

A Must Have For Any Type Of Book Worm
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have now had this product for over a month now and I still love it. The clarity of the screen is fantastic. At times I have to remind myself that it is actually an electonic screen that I am looking at.

The complaints about the flickering of the screen as you change pages don’t seem to be a problem to me. If that is what the machine has to do inorder to imprint the words on the screen then so be it.

It needs no internal light because that only causes battery longevity problems, then we have more people complaining about having to constantly recharge the battery.

I have yet to utilize that mp3 player (I have one on my phone and use my bluetooth headset for those) and i don’t plan on using it either. the last thing i want is to forget to recharge my reader, go on a six hour trip, read and play music, then half way through I have to turn off the reader or lose everything.

This machine is great. Unfortunately i can’t compare it to other readers because i am not going to buy them to see how they work. so what it comes down to is that i trust sony so i see no other reason to not trust any of their products.

Although I do wish it came with bluetooth capabilities.

I love my Sony Book Reader
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
If you read couple books a week, then a electronic book is a must. No more having books all over the place. Its easy to read, can make the words as large as you like. Been told that you can but textbook on it. So easy to purchase book right at your computer, and your computer is a back up on keeping the books. Join the wave of the future.

I am so happy with this e reader and I really can zip through a lot of books. Easy to read in bed. I am reading a book with over 1800 pages and would not be able to hold a book that size for very long.

RED is best
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is truly a great device. My red Reader has provided me with new companion during my travels. This reader is portable and convenient to carry in my purse, so I am never far from a book. I love Sony’s Reader site and I have downloaded over 20 free books and purchase a few too. I had considered a Kindle but Sony’s size and portablity was the deciding factor on my purchase. Books download within seconds and I have found several websites with free magazines and other periodicals.
