TomTom is great
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Its really easy to use and to figure out, and has so many cool features like you can upload your favorite pictures and music. You can also put a memory card into it and listen to music through your gps and still hear where its telling you to go. It was a great buy and I couldn’t be more happy with what I got, it was well worth what I paid for it.
Good product

This product is easy to use and I would recomend it to a friend. I already had this model and bought another one for my wife. However, they need to fix some of the mapping, It tells me a residence address I went to in Dallas was 2 doors down from where is actually was. Also I am unable to link my cell phone by bluetooth, this is one of the features I bought it for, won’t because it doesn’t reconize my phone because it’s a newer one. They need to update the files more frequently.
Best GPS receiver on the market

I have compared the TomTom with the Garmin and have found:
-TomTom has faster satellite acquisition
-TomTom is more accurate especially in city navigation where loss of satellite track is
common with tall buildings masking satellite signals.
-TomTom maps are more accurate and points of interest are abundant, gas stations, restaurants, hotels, etc.
very very cool.
-TomTom is more user friendly and dummy proof even for a computer idiot like me…figured out how to
operate it without reading the directions!
-Screen is easier to read. I have read reviews complaining about sun glare, but I live
in San Diego and did not have any issues with sun glare.
-TomTom seems to be built better…I had some issues with the Garmin in cold weather up in Big Bear..screen blanked out.
I have also dropped my TomTom a few times and still works.
Overall the TomTom give you more bang for the buck.
TomTom GO 730 Review
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I received the refurbished TomTom GO 730 GPS in a very timely manner. However, it was inoperable when it arrived. I contacted TomTom and explained the problem. After some direction from the TomTom Rep. with continued negative results from the unit, I was directed to send the unit back To TomTom using a TomTom furnished prepaid FEDEX mailing label. About a week later I received another unit that has been working very well. The TomTom rep. was very knowlegible and courteous. My impression of TomTom’s product and its support staff is very high. Great product and great people to deal with.
Don’t buy any TOM TOM product

I bought a GO 730 June 2008. About a month ago the navigation would stop and the screen would freeze. I called customer service on three different occasions and each time they had me do something different with the machine. The last one was to completely reformat it but the problem would not go away. At that point I was told that there was nothing Tom Tom could do for me since I was past the one year warranty. The unit has to be replaced so now I have a non working unit that started having major problems 14 months after I bought it. Protect yourself and don’t buy this TOM TOM product!
Problematic

I used this GPS for 5 weeks of heavy use in Europe. It’s the 3rd unit I’ve owned, only because the first two units went belly up within the first couple of days while connecting to the PC for updates and to download maps. If you disconnect too early or shut off the unit without using disconnect from the Tom Tom PC program first, I guarantee you’ve fried the unit. All the cameras I’ve had (about 6) have been forgiving with this, which is why I’ve gotten a little lazy and forgetful about it. I suppose you can only hope that your PC or the Tom Tom program doesn’t lock up while loading music or updating the unit and you have to shut down without using the program to safely disconnect.
When you do have problems with the GPS, it takes a while to get a hold of customer service, but they are responsive when you talk with them.
Now that I’ve had this 3rd unit through 5 weeks of driving in Europe, I can attest that it is easy to operate and navigates nicely with plenty of warning prior to turns and exits. The screen is large and easy to see, even in bright sunlight. I would have hated to be without this thing while driving through all the cities and countryside of several countries in Europe. It made traveling much easier.
One down side; with the North America map already loaded and the operating program, you have virtually no memory left on the unit. A memory card is needed for anything else. But, you can throw in an 8G card and have plenty of memory for other maps and music.
However, the unit developed another problem after only 3 weeks of use; the music just stops working before one song finishes. Can’t get the juke box feature to work correctly no matter what. Bottom line, until Tom Tom improves their quality and adds in features to prevent frying the electronics, buy something else.
Piece of junk, horrible warranty service
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
TomTom is without any doubt the WORSE GPS unit/ Customer service / Warranty service of ANY GPS manufacturer.
My first TomTom the on/off switch was so flimsy it would turn the unit on by itself while it was sitting in the car or on a desk. TomTom finally replaced that one under warranty, but the reconditioned repair they sent runs out of battery power after 45 minutes without being plugged in. When turned off fully charged, the battery will be completely dead within a week WITHOUT the unit being turned on.
I called TomTom customer service, and their warranty department tells me they WILL NOT WARRANTY REPLACE a GPS unit that runs at least 30 minutes under battery power. Also, they told me it was normal for their GPS units to run the battery down within a week WHILE TURNED OFF, and will only replace it under warranty if the battery dies completely within 2-3 days while the unit is turned off.
To recap, TomTom warranty says a fully charged battery only lasts 30 minutes, and a fully charged battery will die after 2-3 days with the TomTom GPS TURNED OFF.
So, if you want to be like me and have a hundred dollar paperweight after purchasing it only 10 months ago, buy this GPS for yourself, or even as a gift! Otherwise, I would avoid this manufacturers products entirely.

p.s. TomTom customer service, if you are reading this, my case number for the facts in this review is 091006-000350. I would not want anyone to think I was making any of this up.

Bought it 2 months ago, works well, you could have more function if upgrade in 1 month or hac
Returned after one day

I looked forward to this gadget. It came and after playing the CD and trying to get help online I returned it. The CD was designed for use in England. TomTom website is of no help whatsoever. The documentation that came with the unit was of no help. The BIG problem is although it’s advertised that you can “speak” to the GPS, there are no instructions on just how to do that. So, rather than fuss with it I just returned it. Good luck if you buy one.
Pretty Good, but not as good as other TomToms
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
So I got this unit because I absolutely LOVED my TomTom 340S. I liked it so much that I figured I’d update and give the 340 to my wife.
This unit is actually pretty good, but there are a few things that are turning me off about it now.
1.) The screen is not nearly as bright as the 340S. I never had problems seeing the screen on the 340, but the screen seems too dim now
2.) The speaker does not seem to be as loud. On the 340S, the speaker was REALLY loud and I could here it over my radio and car sounds just fine. This one is really soft compared to the 340
3.) Lots of streets and things are not pronounced correctly on the 730, even though they sounded great on the 340. Example, 340 says Weber Rd. perfectly, but the 730 says VEBEAR WODE. Very strange indeed.
4.) FM Transmitter is not very strong at all. Every channel I choose always has static, no matter what. I have used other FM for my ipod and other mp3 players and they seem to have always worked better.
5.) I don’t use the bluetooth feature so can’t comment there.
6.) Odd differences in the menu, like when you need to cancel route, on the 340 you could just tap the lower right corner and select clear route, but with the 730, you have to go into the menu, scroll three screens over, then find the clear route button and do it from there.
Basically, the only difference between this one and the 340S is the bluetooth and the FM transmitter. If you don’t need those items, then GET THE 340S as it is better in almost every way. I wish I kept my 340, but my wife won’t give it back now
Besides that, there are lots of things that TomTom does right.
1.) I think the routing is better than Garmin in general (just had a 755t for a while, but didn’t like it). That’s just my opinion
2.) If you are concerned with updating parts of the map (change direction, speed limits, add/remove roadblocks, add construction areas, or adding/removing/updating POIs), then the TOMTOMs are awesome, since you can make most updates to the map yourself directly on the unit (you can’t do any of that with garmins, so if you find a POI that isn’t right, you are stuck with it on a Garmin). TomTom also has itinerary planning where you can set waypoints on your way to other destinations. Best thing ever for the road trip we just took to the east coast.
3.) You can skip part of the route that TomTom suggests at any time. Great if you want to specifically avoid a street that you know is slow/full of potholes, etc
4.) TomToms are not quite as easy to use as Garmins, but give you a little more power in updating the unit as noted above.
There are alot of things that make TomToms superior to Garmins, it just that this unit doesn’t appear to hold up to the high standard that the 340S set for me.
